Retiree Association

The Marquette University Retiree Association was created to provide opportunities for intellectual stimulation and social interactions among its retirees and to help its retirees find ways to be of service to the university and community. As of January 2023, there are 98 members.

History

Formed in the spring of 1978 under the acronym MURFA — the Marquette University Retired
Faculty Association — the scope of the organization was expanded in 1986 to include retired staff. The original constitution, adopted May 11, 1978, was modified in 1990 to reflect this change. The current organization includes registered retired members of the university faculty and staff. As of October 2017, spouses of living or deceased MURA members are also eligible for membership.

Sample activities

Housed in shared office space with the national office of Alpha Sigma Nu, MURA is governed by a nine-member board. In accordance with the constitution, there are two general membership meetings each year, one in the fall and one in the spring. Other membership activities include trips to a variety of interesting area sites, Helfaer Theatre parties, Marquette women’s basketball games, local sports and cultural events, and tours of campus facilities.

Dues

  • Membership dues are $15 per year, $75 for 5 years, or $200 lifetime per individual.
  • Membership dues are in effect for each fiscal year: July 1 through June 30.
