The Hartman Literacy and Learning Center provides after-school reading instruction FREE of charge to children at our partner schools. Eligible children will be in second, third or fourth grade. We accept children who need extra reading help, who can attend regularly during the 10 weeks of our program.

Our after school program runs for 10 weeks in the fall and 10 weeks in the spring. Children will attend two days per week either Monday and Wednesday OR Tuesday and Thursday from 3:30-5:00 pm. A private bus will transport students from their school to Marquette University. They will leave school shortly before the day ends and return between 5:15 and 6:00 pm. Parents will pick children up at their school. Students are accompanied by adults at all times.

During the summer, our program runs for four weeks, generally the two weeks before and following the July 4th holiday week. The program does not run during the week of July 4th. As in the school year, a bus will transport children from their school to Marquette and back to school at the end of the instructional day.

Please complete a permission form to have your student tested for participation in our program. We are not able to serve all students that apply for the program. Students we are not able to serve immediately will be placed on a waiting list in case a spot opens later in the program.

If you have further questions, please contact the Hartman Center Program Coordinator Mary Krawczyk (mary.krawczyk@marquette.edu or 414-288-7617).
