Exhibit: Womenߴs Athletics at Marquette

Fifty years have passed since women at Marquette entered intercollegiate athletics. Women have played sports at Marquette for nearly as long as they have been admitted to the university—that is, for more than a century. But the enactment of the federal Title IX statute in 1972 finally opened the doors to the competitive play that Marquette's male athletes had long engaged in and enjoyed.

A Raynor Library exhibit now celebrates the history surrounding this achievement as well as the stories of luminary female athletes who have made their mark on Marquette along the way. The exhibit draws on photographs, newspapers, yearbooks, and other unique historical materials found only in the library's University Archives.
