O'Brien Fellowship Code of Conduct

Participants in the O’Brien Fellowship in Public Service Journalism must read and agree to the Code of Conduct, ensuring the program experience is meaningful and productive for all.

Appropriate behavior: We seek a collaborative and respectful environment free from discrimination, harassment, and abusive or demeaning conduct.

Violation of Code of Conduct: Any violations of the Code of Conduct may result in disciplinary actions in accordance with University policy, up to and including dismissal from the program. Any behavior deemed inconsistent with the goals and objectives of the program or Marquette University may result in discipline, up to and including removal from the O’Brien Fellowship.

Discrimination and harassment: Program participants must agree to abide by Marquette University's policies on non-discrimination and harassment.

Appropriate use of Email and Online Resources: Participants may use email, online messaging functions, and other online resources at Marquette University only to post, send and receive messages containing material that is appropriate.

Marquette email should not be used to, among other things, distribute or promote spam or unsolicited messages, harass or threaten others, post or distribute any inappropriate or obscene information; collect information about others, including phone numbers and email addresses for purposes unrelated to the program; or create a false identity or profile to mislead others.

Meeting places: To ensure the comfort and safety of student and Fellow participants, in-person meetings between students and Fellows must be held in public or workspaces, such as conference rooms, coffee shops, classrooms, and Fellows’ offices.

Transportation safety: Drivers of O’Brien Fellows or students assume personal responsibility for the safety of themselves and their  passengers. Marquette University bears no liability for use of personal vehicles or travel via other modes of transportation (e.g. train or plane).

Code of Conduct changes: Marquette University and the Diederich College of Communication may change its Code of Conduct for the O’Brien Fellowship from time to time. The O’Brien Fellowship program encourages participants to frequently check the O’Brien website for any changes to its Code of Conduct.

Report violations: Please report any violations of the Code of Conduct to O’Brien Fellowship Director Jeffery Gerritt at jeffery.gerritt@marquette.edu

By participating in the O’Brien Fellowship program, I acknowledge and agree to this Code of Conduct.
