Political Science
Dr. René Jovel is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Political Science at Marquette University, where he teaches Writing and Argumentation in Political Science: Legal Writing and Analysis, and International Law. He also teaches Contract Drafting at Marquette University Law School.
Dr. Jovel is currently Assistant General Counsel at Versiti Blood Health Inc., a multi-state blood health organization headquartered in Milwaukee next to Marquette’s campus at 18th Street and Wisconsin Avenue. In this role, he advises executive leadership on employment law, contracts, compliance, and legal operations. In recognition of his professional leadership and community impact, Dr. Jovel was named the Milwaukee Business Journal’s Best Corporate Counsel for a Private Company and one of Wisconsin’s 36 Most Influential Latino Leaders by Madison365.
In the classroom, Dr. Jovel emphasizes structured legal reasoning, clear writing, and effective oral advocacy. His courses are designed to help students understand how legal frameworks operate in real-world political, institutional, and international contexts, with a strong focus on critical thinking and professional communication.
Dr. Jovel earned his law degree from Marquette University Law School and his undergraduate degree from Northwestern University. He is passionate about mentorship, first-generation professional success, and preparing students for graduate study, law school, and careers in public service and policy-related fields.
