Office of Residence Life student employees are the complement to our professional staff and absolutely integral to the department's efforts. These committed students are the ones who have the most contact with our residents and have the best opportunities to make a positive difference in their living environments.
The Resident Assistant (RA) position is a premiere leadership position within the Office of Residence Life. The main function of the RA is to build relationships with residents in an effort to provide individualized support, campus resource information, and academic encouragement. The goal of the RA is to ensure that Marquette feels like home for residential students by building community within their respective wing or floor.
The ideal RA candidate is a current student who has community living experience, a minimum 2.50 GPA, and a desire to make an impact on the lives of his/her peers. Quality candidates will have a commitment to personal integrity, serving members of their peer group, and engaging in personal development.

Each residence hall has a facility manager who is responsible for maintaining the building. Though facility managers don't do repairs, they coordinate maintenance and custodial efforts and ensure that they are completed in a timely, efficient manner. They also are responsible for the upkeep of the front desk and supervision of the desk receptionist staff.
The manager positions are advanced employment positions within the Office of Residence Life that require confident, competent, and committed student leaders. The managers in both the residence halls and the apartments contribute to their residential communities through supervision of a building front desk, management of facilities concerns, and attention to building occupancy due to students moving in or out.
A Facility Manager is hired for a 10-month appointment running approximately August first of each year through just past graduation weekend of the following year. This person is expected to manage desk operations, and serve in an duty rotation throughout their appointment, including holidays.
The ideal manager candidate is a current junior, senior, or graduate student who has two years of previous work experience, a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50 at the time of application, and is in good standing with the university. Quality candidates will have a commitment to personal integrity and will be able to demonstrate good organizational, management, and interpersonal skills.
Managers are expected to hold 10 office hours each week that occur both during University business hours as well as the evening for access to students. Academic program will be considered in regards to ability to fulfill the expectations of the position.

The Apartment Manager (AM) is an integral part of the team that provides for the day-to-day operation and maintenance of the university apartments, as well as the ongoing preservation of the facilities and services within these communities.
The Apartment Manager is immediately supervised by the Residence Hall Director for University Apartments, but collaborates with other Residence Life staff members on a regular basis, including the Assistant Director for University Apartments & Off-campus Student Services and the Associate Director of Residence Life and Housing Operations.

In our largest buildings, residence hall directors are assisted by graduate assistant hall directors. These students advise the community programming councils, assist resident assistants with community efforts and help hall directors with administrative duties.
There are also graduate assistants who work with student leadership, diversity and inclusion, and special living communities.
The Desk Receptionist (DR) position is the most visible position in the Office of Residence Life serving as the initial representative of the residence hall or apartment building on Marquette’s campus. The DR is first and foremost, a safety and security checkpoint for the building. DRs maintain a high standard of customer service when interacting with both residents/tenants of the residence halls/apartments as well as parents, facilities staff, and people outside of the university community.
The ideal DR candidate is a current student who has customer service experience, a minimum 2.00 GPA, and a desire to make an impact on the residence hall and apartment communities. Quality candidates will have a commitment to personal integrity, the ability to collaborate with team members, and demonstrate leadership characteristics in problem solving, interpersonal skills, and communication.
