AJCU IPP Certificate Program

Overview

The AJCU Ignatian Pedagogical Paradigm (IPP) cohort is a 6-session in-person collaboration between the American Jesuit Colleges and Universities (AJCU) and Marquette’s Center for Teaching and Learning and Mission and Ministry.

The CTL will facilitate these 90-minute sessions. Participants who successfully complete the program will receive a certificate signed by the president of AJCU.

History

In 2022, Rev. Michael J. Garanzini, S.J., former President of AJCU, created a commission composed of educators from Jesuit institutions to breathe renewed life into our long-standing mission and its pedagogical implications. This program is the result of a multi-year collaboration of representatives from across our network of Jesuit colleges and universities.

This certificate program provides an opportunity to meet with campus colleagues to learn more about rich and effective learning in dialogue with the Ignatian tradition, contemporary challenges, and pedagogies. We hope that sharing these experiences with colleagues across your campuses will help establish a cohort of Ignatian pedagogy practitioners, active in all aspects of campus life. We think of this program as alive and adaptable: educational practice is only effective insofar as the practitioners are willing to learn and grow alongside it.

Testimonials:

Dr. Gabriel Velez, Associate Professor, School of Education

"As a Jesuit-educated person and former Jesuit volunteer, this cohort reminded me so much of the rich, reflective spaces that were a part of my own personal and educational formation. It felt like a breath of fresh air to look forward regularly to engaging with colleagues from across the university on spirituality, mission, and how it applied in our work and the challenges we face as individuals and collectively in higher education. I also appreciated the timeliness of the topic, the range of resources, and the openness of the discussion. And who doesn’t like a good conversation over lunch run by thoughtful facilitators with interesting colleagues?"

Dr. Christine Schindler, Clinical Professor, College of Nursing

"I loved participating in the Ignatian Pedagogical Paradigm experience through the CTL. It was a wonderful opportunity to connect with colleagues and think about how we as a collective can advance the Marquette mission through our teaching. I would highly recommend for anyone who wants to learn more about the Ignatian Pedagogical Paradigm."

Dr. Julia Schultz, Professor of Practice, Diederich College of Communication

“I’m grateful to have been a part of the Spring 2025 Ignatian Pedagogical Paradigm Certificate Program. This multi-faceted experience exposed me to a much deeper understanding of the essential learning components that make a Jesuit education unique, powerful and critical, now more than ever.”
