Diederich 101: our alumni newsletter

Our latest episode is here

Dear Diederich College of Communication Alumni and Friends:

Christmas is a time to acknowledge what we share. A home. A set of values. A purpose. That’s what the holidays mean to me.

I’m so grateful, then, to share the holidays with the extended Diederich College of Communication community. In this special group of people, I have found that shared purpose. We are all committed to using the tools and methods of communication to further the search for truth. Guided by our Catholic, Jesuit principles, we lift the voices of the marginalized and discern how to use our gifts for the greatest possible collective good.

This mission has guided my career as a researcher, teacher and dean at Marquette. I’ve been fortunate enough to meet many people who share this mission with me, and it seems like I meet more of them every time I go to a student event or meet with alumni. These people are like a found family to me, and I am reminded of how deeply I appreciate them each holiday season.

I hope you can spend the holidays in the warm embrace of your parents and grandparents, brothers and sisters, sons and daughters. I also encourage you to make some time for the family you’ve discovered along the way; people who share your values and show up for you when you need it most. These relationships, too, are precious. The holidays are a great time to tell these people that they matter.

In that spirit, I tell you that you matter, and that I am so appreciative of your contributions to our college community. Merry Christmas from everyone here in the Diederich College of Communication. We’re glad you’re part of us.

Sincerely,
Dr. Kati Berg
Acting Dean, Diederich College of Communication
