Policies Affecting DREAMers
Immigration issues and policies may evolve rapidly. For the most up-to-date information, see the Immigration Policy Tracking Project, which provides updates on immigration policy actions and protocols, including executive orders and guidances issued by the Department of Homeland Security and Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
In 2012, President Obama announced a presidential directive known as Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA, in which he exercised his prosecutorial discretion to delay deportation for DREAMers who were brought to the United States at a young age.
Due to federal court decisions, no new DACA applications are being processed. However, as of January 17, 2025, if you have DACA you can reapply for another two-year permit. The Informed Immigrant website provides a step-by-step guide to renewing your DACA.
Current Marquette students who are facing financial barriers to applying for or renewing their DACA permits should reach out to Jacki Black at jacqueline.black@marquette.edu to be connected to possible resources.
Immigration law enforcement on college campuses
Marquette University has created a guidance for university employees who may be approached by non-MUPD law enforcement agents, including Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). If you are approached by a non-MUPD law enforcement agent, call MUPD at 414-288-1911.
