Welcome to the Faber Center for Ignatian Spirituality!
Celebrating 20 years of ministry
In December 2005, Marquette’s Jesuit Community took a bold and innovative approach. It provided the founding gift to establish the Faber Center for Ignatian Spirituality, a first of its kind university-based center. As part of the Division of Mission & Ministry, it plays a central role in supporting faculty and staff to understand and experience the richness of the Ignatian tradition. In this way, it is a cultural force on campus helping to ground our Marquette community in the same charism that animated Ignatius of Loyola and his early companions. A core belief of the Center is all are welcome. Not just Catholics and Christians. Each person that comes to the Center is welcomed, seen in their own unique way, and met where they happen to be in their lives with whatever is on their heart. Countless faculty and staff have been transformed through our retreats like the Spiritual Exercises, our Fall Weekend Retreat, our January Silent Retreat, and our Retreat for Busy People. Others have found a sense of belonging and community at our women’s lunches, men’s gatherings, and events with our ERGs. Others have learned and integrated our Ignatian heritage through our book discussions and other educational opportunities. Yet, a hallmark of the Center are the people that come here. They bring their gifts, questions, hopes and dreams, and find a welcoming community, a place for spiritual growth, and a way to live a more authentic meaningful life.
This year, we look forward to celebrating with you all the ways people have been touched and transformed over the past 20 years and desire to look ahead at the new horizons that await our next chapter! We invite you to join us for the many events this year that will both provide means for meaningful connections and spiritual transformation today and celebrate our past accomplishments.
Welcome
Our lives are full of hopes and dreams. We desire to make a difference in the lives of our students, colleagues, friends, and family. We are excited to bring our gifts and talents to all we do, and at times we feel stressed and overwhelmed with all we face. We may face challenges from illness, time management, and even relationships; or perhaps our lives just feel out of balance.
In response to our aspirations and stresses, let us take a lesson from the mighty oak tree. For the mighty oak to reach into the heavens it requires deep roots to nurture and sustain it over the long haul. So too with us. For our aspirations to soar and not be exhausted in the process, we also need deep roots.
The spiritual journey is a process of rooting ourselves. We become more grounded in the depths of who we are, connect to our spiritual core, and encounter God. Such an experience releases tremendous reserves of energy, brings clarity to our vision, and gives focus to our work.
We at the Faber Center invite you to begin, deepen, and/or grow in this spiritual journey. Doing this deep work enables deep living, which leads to deep fulfillment.
