Level 1: Public
Public Eye

Access is public; includes information that's widely known, legally disclosed, unrestricted, or shared to support the university’s mission Minimal to low risk; disclosure is permitted or expected
  • News releases
  • Job postings
  • Published research data
  • General directory info
  • Public-facing marketing and informational web content

Level 2: Less Sensitive

Less sensitive eye

Employees, contractors and people with a business need to know Heightened risk; exposure may cause reputational harm
  • Internally private documents
  • Department budgets
  • Aggregated/de-identified data about people
  • General corporate information
  • Some personnel and technical information
  • Non-federally funded research

Level 3: Sensitive

Sensitive lock

Restricted to employees and non-employees (with signed non-disclosure agreements) who have a business or educational need-to-know Significant risk; exposure may elevate potential for legal or compliance consequences

Critical shield

  • Only employees designated with approved access and non-employees with signed non-disclosure agreements
  • For AI, exclude non-public law enforcement records created by MUPD via Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS)
Severe risk; disclosure could lead to legal, financial, or regulatory consequences
