Clinical Assistant Professor

Physical Therapy

Alyssa Sherer earned her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and completed an orthopedic physical therapy residency at UChicago Medicine. She is board certified as both a Geriatric Clinical Specialist and an Orthopedic Clinical Specialist, and is an APTA Credentialed Clinical Instructor. Alyssa joined Marquette's Physical Therapy Program as a lab instructor in 2020 and joined the faculty as a clinical assistant professor in 2024. She teaches across the curriculum in courses focused on geriatric rehabilitation, patient management, and physical therapy evaluation.

In addition to her academic role, Alyssa practices in the MUPT Clinic treating individuals across the lifespan with post-operative and nonoperative orthopedic conditions. She previously worked for a community health center serving a culturally diverse patient population with complex medical and psychosocial needs, and practiced in a multidisciplinary senior clinic at UChicago Medicine, treating older adult patients with a wide range of diagnoses. These clinical experiences inform her teaching, particularly in the areas of health equity, holistic patient-centered care, and interdisciplinary practice.
