Assistant Professor

Physical Therapy

Blending science and sport, Dr. Jacob Capin, PT, DPT, PhD, MS, is a clinician-scientist and assistant professor of physical therapy at Marquette University. As a former NCAA Division I basketball player and current elite triathlete, his research is shaped by high-level competition as well as experience rehabilitating athletes after traumatic knee injuries. Dr. Capin directs the Life After Sport Trajectories (LAST) Lab, developing lifespan-focused strategies to improve athlete health. His academic training spanning psychology, anatomy, physical therapy, and biomechanics fosters collaborative, cross-disciplinary research. He also serves as the Faculty Director of the  Athletic and Human Performance Research Center at Marquette University and as the Faculty Advisor for The Marquette Challenge. Dr. Capin has nearly 50 peer-reviewed publications and over 100 national and international presentations.

Outside academia, Jacob is a RŌKA STNDRD Racing Team triathlete, seven-time USA Triathlon National Champion, five-time IRONMAN 70.3® winner, and certified USA Triathlon coach. He is the 2025 USA Triathlon Triathlete of the Year.
