The 2026-27 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) has been reformatted under the FAFSA Simplification Act to make it easier to submit information including using the Direct Data Exchange to pull in tax information. For the 2026-27 FAFSA, students (and spouse, as appropriate) will report their tax year 2024 income information.
If you are selected for Verification, Marquette University is required to confirm your tax information. Students successfully transferred tax data to the FAFSA by providing consent do not need to submit a Tax Return Transcript. If you could not transfer your tax data, or you needed to update the information transferred, you must submit a signed copy of your IRS form 1040 with applicable schedules.
If you are a married student who is selected for Verification, Marquette University is required to confirm your spouse's tax information. If you and your spouse did not find a joint 2024 tax return they will need to transfer their taxes to the FAFSA. They will need to be invited as a contributor to your FAFSA and give permission to automatically transfer tax information to the FAFSA. If your spouse was not able to transfer their tax data or manually adjusted the information, they must submit a signed copy of their 2024 IRS form 1040 with applicable schedules.
NOTE: If you or your spouse did not file a 2024 federal tax return you must still give permission to transfer tax data to the FAFSA.
