The following are roles assigned to advisors in CheckMarq.  All advisors have the same level of access to student records in CheckMarq regardless of role, although the role assigned in CheckMarq does determine the type of access granted to the advisor in MySuccess.  The role assigned to each advisor is also visible to students on their Advising tile in CheckMarq.

Major Advisor

Faculty or staff advisor assigned based on a student's major. Responsible for academic advising related to course registration.  If also designated in CheckMarq as a student’s primary advisor, this advisor is responsible for the student’s progress towards degree (PTD).

Supporting Major Advisor

A professional/staff advisor assigned to a student who has moved on to a faculty advisor or faculty advisor assigned to backup or support major advisor(s).

Minor Advisor

An advisor assigned based on a student's minor.

These cohort programs include:

Honors and EOP are also primary advising units, which means that they may be designated in CheckMarq as a student’s primary advisor. Primary advisors are responsible for a student’s progress towards degree (PTD).
