AI Do’s
Do feel free to explore AI capabilities for work. Generative AI may simplify labor-intensive tasks. Faculty and staff are encouraged to use generative AI in their day-to-day work.
Do review tool terms and conditions. Understand vendor terms of service, data use and ownership implications before using an AI tool.
Do protect university data. Use AI tools only in ways that safeguard sensitive, confidential or regulated information.
Do offer clear specifics in your AI requests. Provide context, purpose and expectations when using AI tools. Clear prompts lead to more accurate and helpful responses.
Do break down complex tasks for AI into manageable steps. Structure your prompts in a logical, step-by-step format. This helps AI provide more accurate and verifiable results.
Do verify and critically assess AI outputs. Review AI-generated content for accuracy, bias or potential misinformation before using, sharing or citing it.
Do use AI ethically. AI can support brainstorming, summarizing or drafting. But your final work should reflect your own understanding and comply with university guidelines.
Do approach AI through a human and mission-centered lens. Engage with AI in ways that advance Marquette’s mission and values and follow guidelines while keeping humans accountable for judgment, context and final decisions.

AI Don’ts
Don’t enter sensitive, personal, or confidential information. Avoid including student records, health details, financial data or any confidential university data in AI prompts when using AI tools not approved for enterprise use.
Don’t assume AI outputs are accurate or original. AI may generate incorrect, misleading or copyrighted content. Double-check AI outputs with trusted sources.
Don’t delegate key decisions to AI. Use human judgment for critical calls. AI can help with a second or third opinion.
