Honors Peer Mentor Program (HPMP)

The Honors Peer Mentor Program (HPMP) is an opportunity for Honors students at all levels to support one another as they move through their undergraduate career.

HPMP

For incoming first-year Honors students: Register for HPMP as a 1-credit class (HOPR1964H) in your first Fall semester. You’ll be placed in a small group of 4-6 other first-year students and one older Honors student mentor. Once per week throughout the Fall semester, you’ll meet with your group and participate in activities that will grow your confidence, academic and social skills, and knowledge of Marquette and Milwaukee. Your HPMP group serves as an additional layer of support as you navigate your first semester of college. Participants in the program often turn to their mentors for guidance with exploring majors and minors, joining clubs and extra-curriculars, using campus resources, registering for classes, and lots more. Many groups remain friends long after the semester concludes!

For Honors students after their first semester: 35-40 peer mentors are hired and trained every Spring semester to prepare for the Fall’s new cohort. Mentors represent all colleges and a wide array of majors and minors, interests, experiences, and expertise. This paid position is an opportunity to sharpen your leadership, listening, and discussion facilitation skills, among others. If you’re interested in being an HPMP mentor, keep an eye out for the call for applications in January.

For current mentors: Once you’ve served as a mentor, you’re eligible to apply to be an HPMP student co-lead. Co-leads play a bigger role in organizing the program, including mentor hiring and training, new student orientation, small and large group activity offerings, and campus partner collaborations. Co-leads also serve as the “mentors’ mentors” as we all work together as a team. If you’re interested in being an HPMP co-lead, keep an eye out for the call for applications in October.
