John Steinbeck: Scribe of Social Conscience

Tuesday, November 11 | 7 - 8:30 p.m. | AMU 157

Dramatic readings of John Steinbeck performed by Megan Corse & Paul McComas

With his unflagging insistence that each of us must be our brothers' and sisters' keepers, John Steinbeck could hardly be more timely ... or more necessary. Nearly nine decades after the publication of "the great American short novel "Of Mice and Men (1937) and the epic Depression-era protest novel The Grapes of Wrath (1939), take a fresh look at both masterpieces, plus three other Steinbeck classics.

This performance will feature dramatic readings with an emphasis on the author's status as a master chronicler of the challenges of addiction, mental illness, and poverty, always advocating for “the have-nots.”

Following the readings, Mary Madden, executive director of NAMI Southeast Wisconsin, will facilitate a talk back with Megan Corse, performer, and Paul McComas, performer and creator/curator.

Hosted by Scaling Wellness in Milwaukee, National Alliance on Mental Illness S.E. Wisconsin, 4th Dimension Sobriety, and Marquette University Center for Peacemaking.
