Start Strong with AI

What AI tools can I use? And how can I use them?

  • Before using any AI tool, pause and ask: How sensitive is the data I’m sharing?
    • Place your data into sensitivity levels.
    • Choose safe and approved AI tools based on sensitivity levels.
    • Then review AI Do's and Don'ts.

The Data You Share Matters

  • Problem: Some AI platforms use your inputs and uploaded data to give future answers. If you share confidential data with an AI tool, you could accidentally expose data to others outside of Marquette.

  • Solution: Identify the sensitivity of your data before sharing the data with an AI tool. Then use a safe and approved AI tool for your data.

Sensitivity Levels at a Glance

Begin by placing data into sensitivity levels.

Level 1: Public

  • Example: Marquette Today news articles
  • Why? News is shared to support the university’s mission.

Level 2: Less Sensitive

  • Example: Department budgets
  • Why? Internal financial specifics are confidential.

Level 3: Sensitive

  • Example: Student grades
  • Why? Grades are FERPA non-directory student information.

Level 4: Critical

  • Example: Patient records used in university clinical settings
  • Why? It's HIPAA Protected Health Information.
