Marquette Civic Science Collaborative

The Marquette Civic Science Collaborative brings together interdisciplinary researchers and community partners to advance public understanding, education, and policy related to air quality and health in Wisconsin - particularly across Milwaukee and the Great Lakes region.

Through collaboration with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR), health organizations, and local agencies, MCSC aims to improve how air quality data are tracked, interpreted, and shared with the public. This collaborative focuses on bridging gaps in communication, education, and policy translation - helping individuals, schools, and communities make informed decisions about air quality risks and their health impacts.

  • Regulations (Policy)
  • Behavior / Intervention
  • Suddent Chronic Disease (e.g. Athsma)
Current priorities include developing evidence-based models for risk communication, building community partnerships around major pollutants such as ozone and PM2.5, and convening researchers and practitioners to design actionable interventions. Ultimately, MCSI seeks to create a hub for research, policy, and public engagement that connects science to everyday civic life and environmental decision-making.
